St. Petersburg
St. Petersburg isn’t a city – it’s a legend, a marvelous city whose beauty gives Paris a run for its money. It’s the country’s northernmost city, a hub boasting more than a million inhabitants, a monument city built on a bog, Russia’s ‘Window on Europe’ and its largest port. People call St. Petersburg the Russian tourism capital. A walk along the city’s embankments and its principal road, Nevsky Prospect, will take you on a journey through the great Russian literature, from the literary masterpieces of the 19th century to contemporary novels. People come here to admire the magnificent palace facades, the faded old courtyards, the imperial residences in the countryside and the Aurora cruiser. The city is famed for its suspension bridges, the State Hermitage Museum, the Gulf of Finland, the summertime white nights, the assassination of Rasputin, and the lion statues on Palace Embankment. But the simple view of the northern sun rising over the city would easily gain a special place in your heart.
