When any bus travels along this giant building, it makes as many as three stops! The length of the longest building in the Russian capital is 736 meters (2,415 ft.) and it is not called a ‘lying skyscraper’ for nothing!

It was built in 1968-1970 – the building became one of the first buildings in the then new district of Chertanovo. Several years before this, architect Vsevolod Voskresensky visited the U.S. and was impressed by its skyscrapers and, soon, he had the opportunity to create his own high-rise project.

Albeit horizontal one. In the original project, the architect planned a high-rise building, which was supposed to become the dominant feature of the long building. But, it was abandoned.

The arched building at Varshavskoe Shosse, 125, housed the Research and Development Center for Electronic Computing Technology. Computers, computing machines for aircraft and spacecraft were all developed there. The building has only seven floors, but, due to its length, it seems endless.

This effect is also due to the light materials used for the cladding. And the facade panels, which reproduce the buttons of a computer control panel, remind us of what is being worked on within the walls of the building. The institute's employees had to enter through 12 entrances and walk to their work stations in their section through a narrow corridor.

After the collapse of the USSR, the institute had to be displaced – now it has other residents. The research center, however, still exists and continues to develop computers, including the ‘Angara’ supercomputer.
