The song ‘Homay’ by ‘AY YOLA’ from Bashkiria reaches #5 on Shazam! (VIDEO)

Here’s what it's all about.

Homay is a character in the Bashkir legend of ‘Ural-Batyr’, the daughter of Samrau, the ruler of heavenly birds, and the sun. She helps the main hero Ural-Batyr in his struggle against evil and chaos. Homay is a symbol of light and wisdom.

The reel shows a yurt, a nomadic dwelling, Bashkir folk instruments (the ‘kurai’, ‘kyl-kubyz’ and ‘dombra’) and the performers ride horses, wearing fur hats and stylish ethnic outfits.

The trio ‘AY YOLA’ is comprised of Rinat Ramazanov (vocals, kurai), as well as Ruslan Sever (kyl-kubyz) and Adele MUSUME (vocals, dombra), who are father and daughter.

They have been making music for many years and, in 2024, they decided to create a joint project. “We decided to combine three incompatible things: modern sound, echoes of ethnic music and the Ural Batyr epic. This philosophy runs through the whole album of the same name,” says Ruslan.

“By the end of the fall, we will have introduced you to the songs dedicated to this or that chapter of the epic.” So, there will be a lot of interesting things to come – all with modern rhythms and traditional instruments!
