In ancient times, marten hunting was considered the most profitable among the Bashkirs. The valuable fur of this animal was even dubbed “soft gold”. Because of this, the marten, as a symbol of wealth and prosperity, was placed on the coat of arms of not only Ufa, the capital of Bashkiria, but also a number of other cities of the Republic.
