LESSON 15: ‘Х’

The Russian letter ‘х’ is something like the English letter ‘h’ in ‘hut’, but the pronunciation is different. It's produced in exactly the same place as ‘к’ – at the back of the mouth (that’s why it is transcripted in English as ‘kh’).

To pronounce the Russian letter 'х', place the back of your tongue close to the soft part of the roof of your mouth and let the air flow through with some friction. Imagine making a sound like you're clearing your throat gently.
