LESSON 2: ‘А’, ‘У’, ‘О’ & ‘Э’

There are 10 vowels in Russian: а, у, э, о, ы, я, и, ю, е, ё. 

Let’s start with the first four: а, у, э, о. All these vowels are pronounced almost like in English:

• а sounds like 'a' in ‘car’
• у sounds like 'oo' in ‘cool’
• э sounds  like 'e' in ‘end’
• о sounds like 'o' in ‘more’
