The Transbaikal horse: An indigenous breed with natural curls
The curly coat saves this horse from the harsh Siberian climate. It is thanks to it that it can tolerate extremely low temperatures.
This breed appeared about 3,000 years ago and it was officially recognized in 1940. Initially, they were wild horses, short and stocky (140 cm at the withers and weighing 400 kg), with a peaceful character, unpretentious and frost-resistant.
They most often come in gray colors, although the color can vary.
Interestingly, the curls can disappear if the horse is kept in a closed pen.
The breed is considered rare, as there are only about 300 horses in Siberia.
Since 1993, they have been bred in the Chita State Factory Stables.
