Russian designers unveil a new flying car concept (PHOTOS & VIDEO)
The flying car called ‘IF-9’ is a hybrid of a sedan and a quadcopter. According to the designers, its uniqueness is in its layout solution.
Engines with propellers are placed on foldable beams at the corners of the car body. “The beams fold into special compartments on the sides, which have flaps to improve aerodynamics and aesthetics,” the bureau states.
It claims that the air propeller motors can be powered by any power source, be it electric, hydraulic or hydrogen.
The vehicle also has a capsule cabin with a catapult system to ensure passenger safety.
Reflecting on the scenarios of using flying cars, the designers propose to keep driving ordinary cars around the city. But, when traveling outside the city limits, one could look for the nearest takeoff pad and take to the skies from there.
