5 places of ‘New Moscow’ worth visiting (PHOTOS)

In 2012, the territory of Moscow increased by 148,000 hectares at the expense of the Troitsk and Novomoskovsk districts. They are now called ‘New Moscow’ and are being actively built up. What is interesting there?

A fake Cathedral Square of the Moscow Kremlin, plastic streets of old Moscow, ancient  Russia and wild East sceneries… This is an incomplete list of movie sets that a tourist can visit in the new movie park. It was opened in 2024 and it has an area of more than 1,000 hectares. Food courts, various entertainment, an ice skating rink and live music are also available. And you can also participate in the filming of a real movie. It is easy to get there on free shuttles from ‘Teply Stan’ and ‘Olkhovaya’ subway stations.

Camels, antelopes, lemurs, tigers, lions, alpacas… Such a variety can be rarely seen anywhere else. You can also feed and pet goats, sheep, rabbits and other farm animals. Finally, a variety of other entertainment for children, candy stands and a huge parking lot are also at your disposal.

This museum-reserve is often dubbed the ‘Russian Parnassus’. Poets and intellectuals of the 19th century gathered in the country estate of princes Vyazemsky-Sheremetev. And Nikolai Karamzin, the owner's son-in-law, worked there on his multi-volume ‘History of the Russian State’. Today, you can walk around the beautiful park with cozy ponds, bridges and pavilions. Even Soviet authorities didn’t touch it and recognized the estate and park as a cultural monument. The manor house often hosts musical evenings and lectures.

4. Peredelkino writers' settlement

In the 1930s, Soviet writer Maxim Gorky came up with an idea to build a country side dacha settlement for the best Soviet writers in a secluded forest corner. And it was personally approved by Joseph Stalin. In it, they could live quietly side by side with their families and create timeless works praising Soviet power (and not only). Today, every second house in Peredelkino has become a museum and the local Culture House regularly hosts literary evenings. It’s now an area that has become a place of attraction for creative people and tourists. You can have lunch at the buffet where Pasternak and Yevtushenko once dined or at the new trendy restaurant. And it's very convenient to get there from the ‘Peredelkino’ station of the MCD (Moscow Central Diameters).

A trip to such a museum will be especially interesting for children. The city of Troitsk in the Soviet era became a campus and a scientific center of the Academy of Sciences. Various aspects of physics were studied there: from radio waves and terrestrial magnetism to high-pressure physics. Located in the House of Scientists, you can discover various scientific tricks and curious exhibits (Camera Obscura, Newton's Circle, Heron's Chain and others).
