According to the data of 2020-2021 Russian Census, there are 1,117 cities and towns in Russia. Of these, as many as 16 have more than one million people.

Russia has the fourth most million-plus cities, after China (102), India (46) and Brazil (17). And a quarter of the entire population of the country lives in them!

Leading, of course, is the capital, Moscow, with a population of more than 13 million people. It is followed by the “cultural capital” – St. Petersburg with 5 million inhabitants.
