Russia & Belarus begin mutual visa recognition
An agreement on the mutual recognition of visas between the two countries was signed in 2020, but only came into force on January 11, 2025.
Third-country nationals with a valid visa issued by either Russia or Belarus during the validity period of the visa will be able to freely leave, enter and stay on the territory of both countries. They can cross both the land border (by rail or road) and via air travel.
The regime of mutual recognition of visas will also apply to those who have a temporary residence permit, a residence permit or an invitation to attend an international sporting event in Russia or Belarus.
Citizens of those countries who have the right to visa-free entry to one of the countries will also not have to obtain a visa to cross the border into the second country.
However, each of the countries reserves the right to refuse entry or reduce the period of stay of a foreigner, if security considerations require it.
By the way, it’s easy to obtain an electronic visa to Russia. This procedure is already available to citizens of 64 countries. Which ones? Find out here.
