LESSON 3: ‘Ы’

Sound of the Russian letter ‘ы’ has no equivalent in English. To pronounce ‘ы’, pull your tongue back in your mouth and try to say ‘ill’. The sound should be coming from deep down in your throat. The position of the tongue is similar to the position for the Russian vowel ‘y’, but the lips remain neutral and relaxed — not protruded or rounded.
