Ever had 'kulich', the Russian traditional Easter cake?

In 2025, both the Catholic and Russian Orthodox Church celebrate Easter on the same day, on April 20. So, if you also partake in the holiday, we suggest having this pastry on your feast table!
The ‘kulich’ cake is one of the main Orthodox Easter symbols, together with painted eggs and 'paskha', a cottage cheese dessert.
These days, ‘kuliches’ can be bought in any grocery store or at any church shop, but some 10-20 years ago, every housewife would make this sweet holiday bread at home.
Raisins, nuts and spices (vanilla, cardamom, nutmeg) are usually added to the dough, while the top of the loaf is covered with icing.
The taste may remind you of Italian ‘panettone’ or ‘rum baba’, though it is a little drier.
Have you ever tried some ‘kulich’?
